Hey, I’m Mel Mason The Clutter Expert!
Before I tell you what’s inside The Clear & Called Collective, I want you to understand why this work matters so deeply to me.
Because for me, clutter has never just been about stuff. It has never only been about messy closets, overflowing garages, piles of paper, or rooms that feel out of control.
I know what it feels like when the real clutter is inside you—when your life looks one way on the outside, but underneath there is pain you haven’t dealt with, fear you’ve learned to live around, patterns you keep repeating, decisions you keep postponing, and parts of yourself you keep trying to manage instead of surrender.
I know that feeling because I lived it for years.
When I was 15 years old, my brother died by suicide.
In the aftermath of that loss, I experienced something in the church that wounded me deeply. I had grown up believing in Jesus, but instead of running toward God in my pain, I ran away.
And I stayed away for more than 30 years.
During those years, I searched everywhere. Different spiritual paths. Different belief systems. Different ways of trying to understand myself, heal myself, fix myself, find peace, find meaning, and make sense of the pain.
In many ways, I became very good at looking like I could handle life. I could solve problems. I could create order. I could see what needed to be done. I could help other people. I could keep moving.
But there were places inside me that were anything but ordered.

There was addiction. Debt. Unhealthy relationships. Avoidance. Fear. Self-protection. There were things I didn’t want to look at, things I didn’t want to feel, and things I didn’t want to surrender. And eventually, all of that internal clutter began showing up everywhere.
That’s what clutter does. You can move it around. You can organize around it. You can hide it behind productivity, responsibility, achievement, helping other people, spirituality, or even “doing all the right things.” But if you never deal with what’s underneath it, it follows you.
Then, in October of 2021, I was driving my truck on a winding mountain road. I was going too fast, the truck lost traction, I hit the mountain, and my truck rolled several times. When it finally stopped, it was upright on the side of the road, facing the wrong direction.
And somehow, I walked away without an injury.

No one else was hurt either.
At the time, I didn’t fully understand what God was doing. I certainly wasn’t living surrendered to Him. But looking back now, I can see His hand all over my life. I can see the places where He protected me before I was willing to acknowledge Him. I can see the places where He kept calling me while I was still running. I can see the places where He preserved me when I was still determined to live life on my own terms.
And eventually, God brought me back.
Not because I finally got everything cleaned up first. Not because I became good enough. Not because I figured myself out. He brought me back in the middle of the mess—through recovery, through surrender, through telling the truth, through looking at the things I had avoided for years, through admitting where I was powerless, and through allowing Him into the places I had spent decades trying to control myself.
One of the most profound realizations of my life was that God had not abandoned me. I had spent years looking everywhere else for what had been in Him all along.
When I finally came back to Jesus, it wasn’t just a change in what I believed. It changed the direction of my entire life.
God began clearing things. Relationships. Beliefs. Old identities. Old spiritual practices. Ways of thinking. Ways of coping. Ways of protecting myself. Things I had carried for years because they felt familiar. Things I thought were simply part of who I was.
And layer by layer, He began showing me what needed to go.
Coming back to Jesus changed the direction of my entire life.
And as He began clearing what no longer belonged, He also started asking me to obey Him in ways that made absolutely no sense to me.
One of those things was moving to Northern California.
I did not want to go.
I’m a desert person. I love the heat. I’ve literally joked that I’m part lizard because triple-digit temperatures feel perfectly normal to me. And God was calling me somewhere with winter and snow.
Everything in me wanted a different answer.
For about a year, I wrestled with Him. I kept praying. Kept processing. Kept asking for clarity. Kept trying to make the direction fit what I wanted.
But eventually, I had to tell the truth.
I wasn’t confused.
I knew.
I just didn’t want to surrender.

And that became another turning point for me, because I began to understand how often we say, “I don’t know what God wants,” when somewhere underneath all the noise, we do know. We’re afraid. We don’t understand. We don’t like the cost. We want more certainty. We want the whole plan. We want obedience to feel comfortable before we say yes.
I know that place intimately.
I know what it’s like to be the thing standing between yourself and the next step. I know what it’s like to overthink until something simple feels impossible. I know what it’s like to start and stop, to make promises to yourself and break them, to lose trust in yourself, to numb, to avoid, and to stay busy helping everyone else while the thing God is asking you to do keeps getting pushed to the side.
And even now, God still reveals clutter to me.
I still have moments where I overthink. I still have moments where I resist. I still have to return. I still have to surrender. I still have to ask, “Lord, what is actually mine to carry? What are You asking me to release? What are You asking me to do next?”
The difference is that now I know how to come back.
I know how to stop, tell the truth, clear the noise, turn toward God, and take the next faithful step.
And that is what I want for you.

Because there are believers walking around right now who genuinely love God and want to follow Him, but they are buried underneath clutter. Not just physical clutter. Internal clutter.
Fear. Shame. Overthinking. Distraction. Unprocessed pain. People-pleasing. Control. Perfectionism. Self-protection. Old agreements. Old identities. Too many responsibilities. Too many voices. Too many things they said yes to that God never assigned to them.
And I cannot stop thinking about what happens when that clutter gets cleared.
Because on the other side of that clutter is not merely a cleaner house. It’s not merely better productivity. It’s not merely checking more things off a list.
On the other side of that clutter is obedience.
There is the conversation you finally have. The boundary you finally set. The thing you finally finish. The ministry you finally start. The idea you finally bring to life. The relationship you finally stop carrying. The habit you finally surrender. The room you finally create peace in. The assignment you finally say yes to.
And your obedience doesn’t only affect you.
There are people connected to your yes. People who may be served because you finally moved. People who may hear about Jesus because you stopped hiding. People who may experience freedom because you were willing to walk through your own. People who may be impacted because you finally stopped saying, “Someday,” and started saying, “Yes, Lord.”
